Project description

Title: Finding similarities in analysis of Collaborative Research networks converging in College/University article publishing.

Purpose of this document

To outline the purpose of the experiment to be conducted as a part of studies in the course “Knowledge Networks” IN765 spring 2004.

Background of the study/experiment

In taking the knowledge network course IN765 this spring we were presented with some of the work of our lecture holder Judith Molka-Danielsen. In one of her articles she makes an analysis of the social networks converging in collaborate research at Molde University College. The study examines three points;

  • Associations between the total number of publications of a researcher and the number of unique co-author links.
  • Association between the total number of publications of the researcher and the total number of co-author links.
  • Cluster coefficient measuring of the people working together at the College.

One of the key aspects Judith Molka-Danielsen finds her study is that on Molde University College there writers have a rough average of one (1) collaborate writer per article he/she publishes.

Outlines of the study

I found Judith Molka-Danielsen article to be very interesting and started thinking that it would be interesting to analyze social networks converging in collaborate research on other teaching institutions. The purpose of the study would then be to find similarities in these collaborate research results and trying to visualize the results in some manner.

Collection of the data

Collection of data could be based on the FORSKDOK database available from BIBSYS, but information of how to access the needed information would need some discussion with Judith since I could not find a way to get data about co-authors from the search engine provided by BIBSYS.
